Montenegro Weather & Climate: Monthly Averages

Monthly climate averages for Montenegro, temperatures, rainfall and the best time to visit.

Climate overview of Montenegro

Much of Montenegro consists of mountains and hills. The higher areas have a temperate oceanic climate with mild to fairly cool winters and mild summers. The lower area along the coast has a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and mild winters.

December, January and February are winter months with cold temperatures and snow in the mountains. The average daily temperature is barely above freezing this period. Also a strong wind from the north-east, the Bora, can create a very cold effect making it unpleasant to be outside. During winter, the Bora can last for days and create very uncomfortable conditions.

The best time to visit Montenegro is between April and September although in the months July and August it can be very busy and warm.
