The Sharqiya Sands (formerly known as Wahiba Sands) is a desert how you imagine a desert to be. An almost uninhabited strip of sand with towering endless dunes that have been formed by the wind into perfectly rounded hills. If you go deeper into the desert her surroundings are becoming more and more untouched. You feel the emptiness. A trip to the Sharqiya Sands is a true spectacle and the stars at night will have you talk about this trip for many years to come.

A trip through the dunes is for the ultimate adventurer. From the northern side of the desert it is possible to drive to the south of the Sharqiya Sands. Sometimes you can see 100 meter high dunes. This trip is not for everyone. There are no petrol stations or other facilities in the desert and the dunes will be suffocating especially in summer. For these reasons we recommend to always bring a guide and to visit this destination from December to February while desert conditions are still bearable.

Those who want to experience the real desert can stay in a Desert camp. You spend the night in a tent or barasti hut in the middle of the Sharqiya Sands. The red-hot dunes make a spectacular stage for the setting sun. And at night a crystal-clear starry sky will make your adventure complete.

If you are looking for a great camp we recommend Desert Nights Camp. It is a beautiful camp in a great location. Dinner is fantastic with a large choice at the buffet plus a barbecue.

As you can see the outdoor restaurant area was beautiful and they had a lovely fire pit. Such a sweet place.
